Abstract

This study evaluated the potential of developing Gangwon Province as a workcation hub using spatial analysis and spatial statistics in geoinformatics. The entropy weighting method was applied to quantify the importance of variables such as tourism, transportation, and cultural resources, while Local Moran’s I was used to assess spatial autocorrelation and identify suitable workcation areas. The MGWR (Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression) technique was utilized to analyze spatial characteristics of variables, categorizing Gangneung and the eastern coastal areas as experiential workcation regions, Yangyang and Goseong as retreat-oriented regions, and Wonju and Chuncheon as urban regions. Natural landscapes and tourism resources emerged as key factors enhancing workcation potential, while some areas require improvements in digital infrastructure and transportation accessibility. Spatial statistical methods demonstrated their utility in identifying spatial patterns and tailoring strategies to regional characteristics. This research highlights the potential of Gangwon Province to create sustainable growth models and position itself as a prominent workcation hub.
