Abstract

Television White Space (TVWS) is considered as a promising technology to solve the spectrum deficiency problem. In particular, since TV bands are controlled by regulatory agency of each region, TVWS devices must access geolocation Database (GDB) through the Internet, and obtain available channel from the Database. In this paper we first introduce an emerging new standard, a protocol for access to white space (PAWS), which specifies messages and data model between GDB and white space devices. In addition, we presents the implementation details of GDB server/client, which conforms to IETF PAWS standard, and is capable of providing efficient TV channel management functionality by exploiting a virtual grid based TV spectrum management coupled with geolocation information.
