Abstract

NiFe 2O 4 nanoparticles were prepared by a simple and cost-effective method using nickel nitrate, ferric nitrate, acetone and citric acid using oleic acid assisted sol- gel auto-combustion method. XRD confirmed the formation of single-phase nickel ferrite with space group Fd3m and inverse spinel structure and the crystallite size was found to be 28 nm. HR-SEM and TEM images showed spherical like nanoparticles. The magnetic property of the sample was measured by using a room temperature vibrating sample magnetometer. The magnetic saturation (Ms = 47.8 emu g-1), remanent magnetization (Mr = 10 emu g -1) and coercive force (Hc = 237.10 Oe), were determined.
