Abstract

We synthesized Y 2O 3 : Eu (15, 20, 25 wt%) nanoparticles by using the liquid-phase reaction method and studied their luminescence characteristic according to the amount of doped europium. The particle size and luminescence intensity of the synthesized nanocrystals annealed at 500 °C in air showed europium concentration dependence. We compared these nanocrystals with Y 2O 3 : Eu (20 wt%) annealed in oxygen at 500 °C. The nanocrystal annealed in oxygen showed a better luminescence characteristic and crystallinity. With these annealing conditions, the crystallinity and luminescence characteristic of the Y 2O 3 : Eu nanocrystals are improved.
