Abstract

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin disorder that usually develops during infancy and early childhood. Although the typical symptoms of AD show eczemas that involve the flexural areas, the distribution varies among different age groups and the lesions appear with different features according to the chronicity. Because the diagnosis is made primarily based on the clinical symptoms, recognition of the main features of AD is essential. Also, various other dermatologic condition shows similar features and may resemble AD, in which the differential diagnosis can be difficult. This chapter covers the typical clinical features of AD, various dermatologic conditions that may accompany AD, as well as other disorders that need to be differentiated.
