Abstract
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been extensively utilized to evaluate the efficiency of port terminals and derive benchmarking methods. However, these studies have not considered the minimization of resources necessary to select benchmarking target and have not provided any clear information regarding which resources should be preferentially improved to increase efficiency. To address these issues, we propose a DEA-based stepwise benchmarking method that can gradationally select benchmarking targets by considering a minimization of inputs reduction and outputs expansion and can prioritize resources for improving efficiency. To achieve this goal, we suggest a benchmarking distance niinimization model and a sensitivity analysis applied DEA method. We conducted a benchmarking of 30 major international ports to illustrate me effectiveness of our method.
