Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate muscular strength which the femoral region as a distance variation between a seat and pedal of indoor cycle during cycle exercise. The muscles measured with EMG in the lower extremities in this study are Rectus Femoris(RF) which is the extensor of the petella, Vastus Lateralis(VL) and Biceps Femoris(BF) which is the flexor of the petella, and muscle Semimembranosus(SE). The interrelationship of EMG through a mathematical model is estimated the muscular strength. Five models are implemented for simulation as the distance variation and evaluated patella extensor and hamstring for knee concentric or eccentric contraction via the process of inverse and forward dynamics. As a result, extensor muscles produce a large EMG activity more than hamstring. And these are similar results with previous researchers (Katz(1939), Komi(1973), Hortobagyi & DeVita(2000)). In addition, hamstring indicated no difference according to distance between the seat and the pedal increases but, extensor muscle indicates clear difference. Finally, it is indicated that the integrated muscular strength is directly proportional to the integrated EMG.
