“I Feel Burnout as a Journalist”: Testing Two Interaction Models on Burnout in a Hyper-Connected Society

The pursuit of professionalism, an important value for journalists in a competitive media industry, can be burdensome. Therefore, this study gauges how professionalism is associated with journalistic burnout. Using responses from an online survey of 2014 Korean journalists, we test how various individual-level and organizational-level factors influence professionalism. Additionally, we examine how collaboration with other departments and information sharing among journalists moderate the relationship between solution journalism/social control role and journalists’ burnout. The findings shed light on the factors that impact journalists’ ability to perform their role effectively and the potential impact of organizational-level factors on burnout.
