Abstract

A novel structure of reflective FLCDs (Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Displays) on plastic substrates have been successfully fabricated for the improvement of mechanical and optical properties. FLCD with optimum cell gap and spacer density has been investigated as Smart Card application. The optimum cell gap and spacer density were 1.8 μm and 6% respectively and corresponding contrast ratio was more than 5:1 at 3∼5 V in reflective type. In this paper, we propose a unique structure of plastic FLCD that can reduce and disperse the strain created from mechanical distortion.
