Low cost and high efficiency driving system for AC plasma display panels (PDPs)

Abstract

This paper proposes a low cost and high efficiency driving system for ac Plasma Display Panels (PDPs). To achieve a low cost system with less power consumption, a new driving scheme that eliminates path switches is proposed. It uses four main switches, and the voltage stress of the switches is under sustain voltage level. It has merits of high reliability due to less switching components and lower power consumption. Operating principles of the proposed driving system are explained in detail, and the experimental results using 50-inch PDP have verified the validity of the proposed system.
