N2 - This paper describes an efficient and effective gateway platform, which provides a mobile-based picture archiving communication system (m- PACS) for diagnostic medical image service available via android-based mobile phone. The proposed m-PACS platform plays a role as a gateway to provide a standard way of communicating between mobile phone and hospital’s PACS, and also allows trustworthy and resilience service of mobile applications on demand. This m-PACS platform has a three-layered structure which consists of management layer, functional layer and network layer. Especially, the functional layer includes the following features for mobile-based diagnostic image processing: header syntax conversion for single standard format, resolution transformation on JPEG/JPEG2000, text and avatar search, and etc. Finally, a mobile service system is developed for the use of the m-PACS platform in the android framework, and this is shown to provide a useful and efficient solution for a mobile-based diagnostic image service.
