Abstract

The evaluation of liquid crystal display (LCD) quality in terms of human factors shows more accurate results than conventional measurements such as image resolution and response speed. In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring eyestrain based on pupil accommodation speed according to the change of four adjustment factors - brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue - of images on an LCD TV. Experimental results showed that the order of affecting the eyestrain much was the changes of hue, brightness, contrast and saturation. Based on them, the solutions for suppressing eyestrain of watchers of LCD TV are discussed.
