Photoluminescence properties of Tm3+ & Er 3+:Ca4GdO(BO3)3 powder phosphors

Abstract

Luminescent phosphors of Tm3+ & Er3+ :Ca 4GdO(BO3)3 have been prepared by a solid state reaction technique. For these two powder phosphors. XRD, SEM and FTIR have been carried out to understand their structural properties. Emission spectra and lifetimes of the prominent visible emission bands have been measured. For T m3+: Ca4GdO(BO3)3 phosphor, a blue emission band of (1D23F3) at 452nm with λexci= 356mn and for Er3+: Ca 4GdO(BO3)3 phosphor, an intense green emission band of (4S3/24I15/2) at 561nm with λexci = 377nm have been observed. Emission from these phosphors, have been explained in terms of relevant energy level schemes.
