Abstract
A small coplanar-waveguide-fed monopole ultra-wideband antenna with dual band-notched characteristics is presented. By using a modified ground plane, the bandwidth of the antenna is extended by 28%. Two types of simple slots, L-shaped and semicircular, are cut in the radiating patch to create dual band-notched characteristics in 3.3-3.7 GHz for WiMAX and 5.15-5.825 GHz for WLAN, respectively. A good agreement between measured and simulated results were observed, showing broadband matched impedances from 2.8 to >12 GHz with VSWR <2, except for the two notches. The antenna has a small size of 17× 23 mm2, a stable gain, and a nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern in the entire bandwidth.
