Abstract

CuO nano-particles were successfully prepared via solgel method. The prepared powder was characterized using Xray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. Structural studies revealed that the CuO nanoparticles were polycrystalline in nature with monoclinic structure. The crystallite size of the CuO nano-particle is estimated to be ~10 nm. The microstrain, number of crystallites per unit area and dislocation density of the nano particles was calculated. The rod shaped nano grains were observed using SEM and TEM studies. The optical optical band gap was estimated and reported.
