Abstract

Smart wearables cover a large range of interactive wearable electronics that serve to improve the standard of life, noninvasively sensing the physiological signals for health-care applications in real time, augment the human sensory organs, and even offer some novel functionalities that human beings do not have. Apart from their functionalities, smart wearables should be able to deform along with the irregular and elastic surface of the human skin to make an intimate contact for enhanced wearing comfort and high-fidelity acquisition of bio-signals for some of the electrophysiological sensors. This chapter comprehensively covers smart wearables in terms of practical applications of wearable electronics and review the latest trend in smart wearables that shed light on the emerging opportunities. In this chapter, smart wearables are classified into two main categories: wearable sensors and display/haptic devices.
