Abstract

In this paper, we report our recent research works on the V-band waveguide-to-CPW transitions for broadband wireless LAN application. For this, the transitions operating in a frequency range of 50-70 GHz are designed, fabricated and characterized. The designed waveguide-to-CPW transition is optimized to achieve low loss by using an EM field solver of HFSS. From the measurements, an insertion and a return loss of -1.36 and -12.73 dB, respectively, were obtained at 60 GHz. The average insertion loss of the back-to-back transition is -1.29 dB in a frequency range of 50-70 GHz. The V-band transitions fabricated in this work exhibit a comparable or even superior insertion loss performance compared to the earlier reports on transitions.
