Abstract
This letter presents a wideband reconfigurable antenna with tri-polarization diversity. The proposed antenna has several exclusive features including: wide operating bandwidth (BW); removal of biasing wires to avoid their effects on the antenna's RF performance; and simple reconfigurability using only two p-i-n diodes and one switchable voltage. A microstrip patch is chosen as a primary polarization-reconfigurable source of the designed antenna. Next, a metasurface (MS) is employed to accomplish a significantly increased circularly polarized (CP) BW and the realization of linearly polarized (LP) operation. An antenna prototype is fabricated and experimentally tested to authenticate the simulated results. The measurements confirm that the proposed design exhibits wide overlapped BW of 12.4% and broadside gain of better than 5.8 dBi for dual-sense CP and LP states.
